As has been noted many times throughout the evolution of the Unlock Protocol project, Unlock DAO self-governance is crucial because it allows for decentralized decision-making and community-driven consensus. Self-governance is essential for the growth and success of the Unlock Protocol, as it empowers members to take an active role in shaping the direction of the protocol.
One of the things you’ll see a lot more of in 2023 is that while the Unlock Labs teams will be making recommendations, we are actively encouraging the community to be self-determined in activities going forward. For example, a process like this can balance the needs of self-determination in Unlock DAO activities, as well as balance the technical realities of off-chain and on-chain voting for proposals within the Unlock DAO:
We were thrilled to see @rwalls jump in and start a thread around Retroactive Funding this morning! It’s literally the perfect example of the first box in this chart. Anyone (even you!) can start a conversation, anyone (even you!) can get a discussion going that leads to active governance and proposals. We would hope to see that in a week or so, someone (even you!) could summarize the discussion that will take place in the Retroactive Funding thread and start to move it through a process like the one illustrated above.
